I hate the linear stream of social media timeline that pushes content on me. I prefer to pull and pick and choose what I read and what trusted contacts find relevant, by RSS. The stream is designed to overwhelm the reader and make them dependent on algorithmic recommendations. RSS, by contrast, preserves a sense of place.
